Born and raised in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, James Pitz is a civil litigation and personal injury lawyer at Sigman, Janssen, Sewall, Pitz & Burkham. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
James became an attorney because he’s passionate about helping people in need. Whether it’s hearing a kind word from a former client or getting a referral from someone he’s helped, James takes pride in his responsibilities as an attorney when clients trust him to get the best results possible for their cases. Throughout his career, he has represented more than 1,500 clients who were dealing with injuries, disability, and wrongful death claims.
A keen competitor since childhood, James always strives to be the best in whatever he does, and he hates to lose. In fact, James remembers triumphing over several more experienced defense attorneys early in his career because of his confidence and his refusal to shy away from a challenge. He brings this competitiveness to each case he takes on at Sigman Janssen.
In his personal life, one of James’s top priorities is seeing his children succeed at school, at sports, and in life, and he spends hundreds of hours each year coaching youth baseball and basketball teams. He uses this opportunity to mentor local children and to become a positive role model in their lives.

From the beginnings of Mark Sewall as a paper mill worker and small engine assembler on Wisconsin assembly lines, his road to becoming a partner at Sigman, Janssen, Sewall, Pitz & Burkham was long and winding. However, it was those early work experiences that gave him a unique insight into workers’ compensation, disability, and insurance laws—which are now his primary areas of concentration as an attorney.
Mark grew up with nine siblings in Neenah, Wisconsin, and he’s a 1987 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Philosophy, summa cum laude. After a five-year stint working in the local factories, he chose to attend the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1990.
Practicing law gives Mark a chance to get to know his clients on a personal level, and this connection carries over into the passion he has for representing the people who depend on him. It’s his priority to make sure his clients are never left in the dark about the status of their cases, and he makes every effort to return phone calls within 24 hours.
Outside of the office, Mark enjoys reading—particularly biographies—and he can often be found at the movies or out riding his bike. He’s also a travel-lover, having vacationed in Europe many times. His dream is to see the beaches in Normandy, France.

For Ana Burkham, there’s nothing quite like the feeling she gets after she tries a successful case. She loves a challenge, and when she represents her Social Security Disability clients, she has one thing on her mind: getting them the best results possible.
Ana is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, but she moved to Wisconsin while she was still in grade school. She’s a 1997 graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in art history. She then moved back to St. Louis to obtain her Juris Doctorate from Washington University School of Law in 2000.
